12 years ago, Audrey and I moved to a subdivision called The Falls (near Mill Creek, Washington) to start a church.
14 years of experience in traditional churches left us hungry for something different. The call was to a new type of ministry. One that would focus on meeting people where they lived and introducing them to the God they have been searching for. This required studying the culture, and an effort to find a way to communicate the great news of God’s tremendous and abundant love.
After 3 unsuccessful months of trying to get other church people to join, we invited neighbors to a bible study. This began the core group who would help form the early years of Gold Creek. Many of our neighbors were either new in their faith or didn’t even have a faith. These initial members served and helped us start our church three months later, in the nearby elementary school, Totem Falls Elementary (a few short miles from where our church now stands).
The growth of Gold Creek has always been amazing; adding about a 100 new members per year, without any of the normal support (building and/or offices). We added yearly to our staff, with many of our staff coming from within our own church. Gold Creek has always been about people and doing the best we can to serve our members and the community. With real flexibility, we reached out in those early years with amazing success.
A few years back, we were given the chance to expand even further. In keeping with our philosophy; we continue to operate with no pastoral offices making sure that all our building space gets used as a tool to help us introduce people to God. The strength of our church is not found in its financial assets but in our incredible people. People who love God and are interested in helping others love God. We continue to have many who are new to faith or have no faith at all.
During the last few years, Gold Creek has seen the highest growth ever. We are doing all we can to make room for an ever increasing group of people who love God and are interested in discovering and sharing this loving God. As we grow, we’ve made sure we stay small enough to meet the needs of each member. I am convinced that the positive message of Christ will continue to attract even larger numbers. The potential is really unlimited because of our God who is unlimited. We can’t wait to see what God will do next.
