When summertime rolls around and winter is over, it’s time to get out with friends and family. It’s festival season right now, and when it’s happening in your backyard, you can’t help but come out and get into the energy that’s happening around you. The food trucks, vendors, kids activities, bounce houses; it’s what summer is all about!
Going to festivals is really celebrating, which is something we talk about all the time at Gold Creek. One of our core values is, “Celebrate.” Celebration is important to us as Christ followers, and is something that we find in the act of communion. The word for communion in our holy scripture is, “Eucharist.” It means Thanksgiving. Something to celebrate, something to be thankful for. That we celebrate the presence of Christ in our lives, when we come to the table of Jesus, and we remember him in the communion elements of bread and wine. It’s an act of celebration that we hold onto our hearts and we take it with us throughout each day of our week.
I encourage you to get out into festival season this summer and have some celebration for yourself and your family. Know there is an energy deep within you that goes straight up to the heavens which is gratitude and thankfulness you’re alive, that you have the opportunity to taste some food or be with friends. It’s a feeling of thankfulness, or maybe worship in your heart.
There’s also an energy that goes out towards other people around you, where maybe you offer them a corndog, or some of your kettle corn. My hope and prayer is that as you get out into the festivals and into your summer celebration this season, to pay attention to the things that make you want to give thanks to the heavens and to your creator. Pay attention to the heart strings that tug at you and tell you to go say hi to that person, go make friends with them, or maybe share some food with them and invite them to the table of your life.
Have fun this summer and keep Christ with you everyday!
