I hope you all had a great summer…I had a phenomenal summer hanging out, outside. One of my favorite memories was going with my son on an overnight hiking trip. My son is 5, and we stayed in a tent and we fished; it was amazing!
One of the reasons, I believe, people in the Pacific Northwest love getting outside, is not only because of the sun, but we’re able to get out of the rat race and disconnect and unplug. We want to rest. And the bible talks about rest and how our rest should be in the Lord. I struggled for a long time finding my rest in God, and also balancing my calendar and schedule. And maybe you have that issue too?
One of my good friends challenged me and said, “Pull out your phone, Brian.” So I pulled out my phone. He said, “Nothing matters and doesn’t exist unless it’s calendered on your phone.” And it’s so true! Unless I have something scheduled on my calendar these days, it doesn’t really exist. If you’re struggling reading your Bible on a regular basis, calendar: “Reading the bible.” Calendar: “Reading a devotion everyday.” So I began to do that, and it’s been a game changer for me. If something is really valuable, I need to put it in my calendar. And spending time with God is valuable.
As we’re coming into the new school year, we’re getting back to church, getting back to our school schedules, make sure to calendar: “Going back to church.” Make church a priority. The church has been a priority for my family and it has become the foundation and the bedrock of our family.
So, if it’s true that, “It doesn’t really exist unless it’s on our calendar,” let’s calendar it and get back to church and be consistent, because it’s ultimately gonna feed and blossom our own families. We love you all and hope you had a great summer. I can’t wait to see you back at church!
