It’s the Fourth of July, which is one of my favorite holidays of the year. There is something so special about spending the day in the sun with your family, eating good food, and of course, the fireworks! Whenever we go shopping for fireworks, it’s fun to see everyone’s choices. My husband loves the big boom, I love the beautiful colors and my kids love the ones shaped like cars, planes or tanks.
For me, this year’s Fourth of July is extra special, because my four year old has been asking a lot of questions about why we celebrate the Fourth of July. There are a lot of important men in my life that served in the military. My dad was in the Navy for 31 years and retired as a Master Chief. My little brother is a Marine Police Officer, who travels the world for his job. My Grandpa was in the Navy, my Father In Law was in the Air Force; it’s deep in my family’s history. It’s been so special to know that my family helped shape our country into what it is now and share this with my kids.
So while you’re having fun celebrating this Fourth of July, make sure you’re doing it with the right reasons in mind. If you have served, or are currently serving in the military, thank you for your service. It does not go unnoticed or unappreciated. If you have not served, I challenge you to find someone who has and give them an extra thank you on this Fourth of July. Whatever you choose to do today, whether you’re in the sun or lighting fireworks, remember what this holiday is all about and why we celebrate the Fourth of July.
Have a great day and I’ll see you on Sunday.
