This week, we are back to school…finally! I hope you all had a fantastic summer with your family and friends, and I bet you are sighing a bit of a relief to be back in a routine. I want to talk to you parents, specifically, about being present in your child’s life, whether your kids are entering Kindergarten or going into their Senior year (as my youngest one is this week!)
As I look back over the years, and the presence of my husband and I in all of our kids’ lives, it reminds me of how God is constantly pursuing us at every stage of our life; Just as we need to be there for our kids. During the school year, your child is going to have new life experiences, and hopefully most of those are going to be fun and positive. But there might be some they need your help navigating through. The confidence, figuring out who they are, and how they can represent God in their decisions.
You know, if you have a teen right now, you might feel like the last thing they want is your presence, but again, I look back on my life and God has always been present. I did not always acknowledge that, but those were the times when I needed him the most. And I would venture to say, that those are probably the times our kids need our presence the most.
One little tip, if you’ve got a preteen or teen in your house, for whatever reason, they get a little bit chattier at night. So maybe take some time before you go to bed and just ask them, “How was your day? How’s life going? What friends are you hanging out with?” Be aware of all of these things, because they need your presence more than they may be acknowledging. I hope that you all have a fantastic school year and we hope to see you on Sunday!
