What to Do About Hate?

Proverbs 6:16-19

“There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: Pride, haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.”

The “What To Do About Hate?” Sermon Series will break down the seven sins that should be avoided and are condemned by God.  During this series, the Pastors will focus on dismantling the things God hates out of our lives and how to love better and be a better person.

We hope you will join us at one of our area campuses to hear this powerful message during the month of October.

Week 1

Pride, Haughty Eyes:

Week one will focus on the first thing that God hates: Pride, haughty eyes, eyes that are arrogant.  The Pastors will explain the difference between what pride is; an attitude of independence from God.  And what pride is not; self-esteem, happy about an honor given or satisfaction in a job well done.

James 4:6 says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

Week 2

Lying Tongue:

Week two will focus on the second thing that God hates: A lying tongue.  The Pastors will break down the different types of lying:

  • Lying to myself
  • Lying to protect myself
  • Lying to get rich
  • Lying to make myself look better than I am
  • Lying to make myself look good
  • Lying that destroys us

Learn to hate what lying can do to us, and instead, love the truth.

Proverbs 12:22

“The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful.”

Week 3

Shed Innocent blood, devise wicked schemes:

Week three will focus on the third and fourth things that God hates; Hands that murder the innocent, shed innocent blood, and a heart that hatches evil plots, devises wicked schemes.

The Pastors will first discuss three types of murder:   Physical Murder, Character Murder and Spiritual Murder.  We must learn to hate murder and love life.

Matthew 5:21

“You have heard that our ancestors were told, ‘You must not murder.  If you commit murder, you are subject to judgment.’”

“A heart that hatches evil plots” is one who weaves together a plan based on cunning and human wisdom.  Learn to hate the enemy of our soul and learn to love the defender of our soul.

Genesis 6:5

“The Lord saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time.”

Week 4

Feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community:

Week four will cover the final three things that God hates and three people you should hate to hang out with.

  1. Feet that are quick to rush into evil, to break to pieces, to ruin: Jezebel.

Revelations 2:20

“But I have this complaint against you.  You are permitting that woman-that Jezebel who calls herself a prophet-to lead my servants astray.  She teaches them to commit sexual sin and to eat food offered to idols.”

2. A false witness who pours out lies: A blatant liar.  Lies Habitually, lies about others, lies about God.

Psalms 101:5

“Whoever slanders his neighbor in secret, him will I put to silence; whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart, him will I not endure.”

3. A person who stirs up conflict in the community: A busy body.

Romans 16:17

“I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned.  Keep away from them.”

Love to hang out with these three kinds of people:

  1. A good leader.  God puts people in our life to lead us.
  2. A great truth teller.  Find people who will coach you.
  3. A peace maker.  Find someone that leads you to peace.
