It’s June, and we are getting ready for summer vacation. Vacation is an interesting word. If you were to go to England or Europe, they would talk about going on a holiday, but we talk about going on vacation. Which means to vacate or getaway; to do something out of your normal routine. Hopefully, all of you have planned some time with your family to vacate or getaway this summer.
Vacation, or the idea of vacation, really came from God. He told us, work six days, take a day off. Rest, renew your mind, restore yourself. He also had a rhythm where every seven years they would take time off. During this time, they would have a number of different holidays they would celebrate, sometimes months at a time. If you think about it, vacation was really God’s idea! He knows that we need time away. So, how do you make your time really, really valuable? For Audrey and I, we’re gonna spend a bunch of time in the boat. When I’m fishing, I can’t think about anything else. I love to fly fish, but Audrey loves to bass fish, so guess what we’re doing? We’re bass fishing! We have a bass fishing boat for that reason and we’re gonna have a great time on the water.
The other thing we plan to do this summer is to try something new. We’re gonna have an adventure, go to some new places and try something new. I challenge you to do the same. Because in the process of your adventure, there’s a positive experience that happens in your mind and in your soul. My hope is you will really enjoy your vacation this summer. And as you are getting ready for vacation, don’t forget, this was really God’s idea, and it was a good one! May God help you rest and restore and enjoy the creation he has given you. See you this Sunday. Would love to see you!
