We are heading into winter camp season for kids and youth, second through twelfth grade. I want to talk to you today about why Gold Creek Community Church puts on camps and why you send your kids.
Let’s talk about the obvious first: You get a weekend away from your kids! I get it, believe me, it’s totally ok to have that mentality! I also believe you’re hoping they connect more with their faith and understand God’s love. And finally, you’re hoping they make more friends, and they have fun.
From the Church perspective, let me tell you what it’s not: It’s not a money maker. We try to break even and usually come up short because we want the opportunity for as many kids to attend camp. Putting on a camp is not easy. Camps are a ton of work! I don’t tell you that in guilt, I tell you that because you are entrusting us to take care of your kids and supervise them for a weekend or more, and we take that very seriously. Let me tell you what it is: It is a ton of fun! We have so much fun with your kids and the counselors that attend. There is so much bonding that happens, and the kids really do make more friends. We see more engagement with kids faith and understanding at camps then we do most Sunday’s. We have seen so many students accept Jesus Christ as their Savior while attending camp.
If you’ve already been sending your kids to our camps, I encourage you to continue to do so. If you as a parent want to come along and help us, we would love to have you on the team.
If you’ve never sent your kids to camp and have questions or hesitations, please contact me, email@example.com and I can talk to you, or you can check out the different camps that are offered online at goldcreek.org/whatshappening for more information.
